Mapping Uncounted Anthropogenic Fill Flows: Environmental Impact and Mitigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fill material flows created by land development earthworks are anthropogenic agents that generate massive energy use from their heavy loads. However, formal quantification of these has been neglected. We Osaka Prefecture in Japan as a case study to quantify fill and associated CO2 emissions. collected data on flows, including generation acceptance. mapped publicly uncounted calculated the emissions use. also simulated scenario which optimized shortest-distance matching is achieved between generators acceptors. estimated current based distance weight broke down total type site activity. compared our estimates with simulation found could achieve an 8448 km reduction flow length 5724 t-CO2 transportation. discussed implications flexible matching, especially different construction sectors, importance continuous, spatially geo-referenced monitoring toward further environmental impact mitigation. The approach presented here apply assessing loads arising landform changes other cities lead new regional- global-scale science Anthropocene.

Rainfall-triggered landslides, anthropogenic hazards, and mitigation strategies
Rainfall-triggered landslides are part of a natural process of hillslope erosion that can result in catastrophic loss of life and extensive property damage in mountainous, densely populated areas. As global population expansion on or near steep hillslopes continues, the human and economic costs associated with landslides will increase. Landslide hazard mitigation strategies generally involve ha...
متن کاملNatural and anthropogenic U in environmental samples
The interaction of thermal neutrons with U results in fission with a probability of 85% and in the formation of U (t1/2 = 2.3 10 yr) with a probability of 15%. While anthropogenic U is, therefore, present in spent nuclear fuel at levels of U/U up to 10 , the expected natural ratios in the pre-anthropogenic environment range from 10 14 to 10 . At VERA, systematic investigations suggest a detecti...
متن کاملEnvironmental and Anthropogenic Pressures on Geophytes of Iran and the Possible Protection Strategies: A Review
Ornamental geophytes (ornamental flower bulbs) are international and national heritage considering their contribution to people's life quality around the world. Iranian habitats support about 8000 species of flowering plants (belonging to 167 families and 100 genera) of which almost 1700 are endemic. Iran is a rich country in terms of distribution of bulbous plants. More than 200 species of bul...
